For the past two weeks Haji has been holding a solidarity sit-in in the basement of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior. Haji (the 2nd person from the left in the photo) kicked off his occupation with a call to folks in the community to drop in and have a conversation with him about the need to welcome refugees and immigrants. Haji is originally from Iran, and teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Tomorrow will be the last day of the sit-in. We commend Haji for this action, and can report first hand that it has triggered a lot of conversations among folks around town!
We also want to urge our readers to turn out on Feb. 17 for the Stand in Solidarity With Immigrants on Presidents' Day rally. That event will run from 5-5:45pm on the corner of Superior St. and 5th Ave. W in downtown Duluth.
