Karl Marx powerfully that "philosophers have sought to interpret the world, the point, however, is to change it." Towards that end here is a list of ways that we encourage folks who are looking to make their community and world a better place to plug into:
- CALENDAR: The
Northwoods Socialist Collective publishes a weekly calendar of activist events going on
throughout northern MN and WI. It's a great way to stay in the loop!
To sign up to get it by email fill out this form. You can also find the calendar posted on our website, facebook page, twitter and instagram page. We publish it every Tuesday. The local DSA chapter also puts out a weekly calendar, as does Claire B, both of which we also recommend.
- MEETINGS: We hold monthly Socialism and a Slice current events discussions which are a great way to find out about what's going on in our community, and how you can get involved. Some months we feature a local activist talking about an important campaign they are involved with, other times we just go around the table and share announcements and updates about things we ourselves are involved in. We also hold monthly membership meetings where we share reports and updates on the campaigns we are involved in. Slice is usually held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30pm at the Duluth Building for Women, and our membership meetings are usually on the 4th Monday at 7:30pm over zoom. Check our calendar though, because sometimes the times and locations change.
- CAMPAIGNS: Currently the main campaigns the Collective are involved in are the Palestine solidarity and the reproductive rights movements. There are a variety of great local groups working on this issue! We especially recommend plugging into the Palestine Solidarity Working Group, which attempts to coordinate some of the local Gaza activism. Email us for info on how to join it. Currently it meets on Thursdays at 7pm over zoom. And if you're looking to get involved in the reproductive rights movement, we recommend becoming an abortion clinic escort and/or getting involved with the HOTDISH Milita.
- LABOR: We have also set up a separate Labor Activism page, with a variety of resources and links for labor solidarity activists.
- CAMPUS: We have set up a separate Campus Activism page. On it you'll find a variety of resources and links for student activists.
- LINKS: Here is a list of various local activist groups that we recommend checking out and getting involved in (see our Campus page for a list of student activist links and our Labor page for a list of labor activist links).
- Anti-War & International Solidarity activism:
- Housing & Anti-Poverty activism:
