Today was Duluth's 10th annual march for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives. The main organizer of the event was the Native Lives Matter Coalition, with support from numerous community groups, including the Northwoods Socialist Collective.
The event began at AICHO with a welcoming ceremony by Ricky Defoe, followed by speeches from various community groups. The mayor of Superior and Human Rights Officer of Duluth read official proclamations from both cities marking Feb. 14 as MMIWR Awareness Day. Next, a number of family members of MMIWR gave heart wrenching testimony to what they are going through, with a call for more to be done to end this epidemic. The event culminated with a march through the streets of downtown Duluth, culminating at the Duluth Building for Women.
Thank you so much to everyone who participated, with a special heart felt thank you to Rene Ann Goodrich, who is the beating heart of this event. If you're not already, be sure to follow and support the Native Lives Matter Coalition No more MMIWR!
