We also want to make readers aware of a number of alarming situations in the last couple of weeks where anti-Line 5 protesters have been stalked and harassed by Enbridge employees. Enbridge has trespassed on protesters land, and an Enbridge security vehicle even struck an activists vehicle on purpose in mid-June. This aggressive and outrageous behavior is further evidence of Enbridge’s fear that if they don’t push through at break neck speed with this construction project, it may yet be stopped.
We urge our readers to continue their opposition to the Line 5 pipeline, which poses a threat to the health and ecosystem of Bad River and surrounding communities. This is in addition to the fact that with our planet in the midst of an epic climate emergency, we have to stop building new fossil fuel infrastructure, period. We urge folks to support info projects and groups on the ground that are working to stop the pipeline, like the Neighbors Union, Communities United by Water, Stop the Line 5 - Protect the Water and Gichigami Guardians.
And mark your
calendars, a Week of Resistance against the pipeline will be held from July
20–26 in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Water protectors and friends from near and far are invited to challenge
Enbridge’s violence against the land and water. We insist that gathering to
reject their destruction is our responsibility. No one will resist alone, and
we will not look away. Join us in monitoring construction, making art,
sharing stories, and learning from each other. There will be a rally to bring
awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Relatives crisis:
more details coming soon.
