Join Us

The Northwoods Socialist Collective is a motley crew of revolutionary socialists based in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. We're always looking for new members.  Here is a quick run down of how you can get involved in our group!

 

Becoming a Supporter: Anyone is welcome to come our monthly Socialism and a Slice meeting, our protests or any of our other public events.  We have a monthly email list for folks who consider themselves friends or supporters of our group that lists specific ways you can plug in. Being a supporter is a totally informal thing.  Contact us at northwoods.socialists@gmail.com to get signed up for that email list.

 

Becoming a Member: Our membership requirements are that you be in general agreement with our Mission Statement (which is posted at the bottom of this page) and that you pay annual dues of $1.  We have a zero tolerance policy towards violence and sexual harassment. As a group we do not take a position on electoral politics or endorse candidates, but individual members can relate to that how they choose. 

 

If you're interested in becoming a formal member, fill out this application.  Applications are voted on by the Collective as a whole. We try to get back to you within a week. Once you've been voted in as a member, you'll be invited to attend our monthly membership meetings (where all members can vote, make proposals, etc.) and plug into our online discussion forum.  Our monthly membership meetings are online, and are held on the 4th Monday of every month at 7pm.

 

Some of our members are very involved in the group, and some are not - and that's okay.  We're set up so that folks can plug in as they're able, without any pressure.  We exist to do two main things, promote social justice activism, and do basic education work on socialist politics.  Towards those ends, we provide these activist resources:

• Socialism and a Slice: These are public meetings where we host local activists talking about their projects, or other educational presentations.  They're on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30pm in the Duluth Building for Women.
• campaigns: These are main projects that we agree to work on collectively as a team.
• activist calendar: This published every Tuesday and sent out over our email list and posted on our website.  We use it to hold up and promote the various awesome activist events in the area.  send us your email address if you'd like to get this.)
  
• printed newsletter: We publish and mail our a printed newsletter roughly four times a year.
• social media sites: We post activist events and resources on our instagram, facebook, twitter, bluesky and tiktok pages. 
• website: We use this to host educational links and a Socialist FAQ, materials on the history of the socialist movement, links to other activist groups as well as news and views from a socialist perspective - it's at www.NorthwoodsSocialists.org
• literature tables &  library:  We've got a collection and leaflets and brochures about local activist projects and socialist politics that we set up at our meetings and public events, and we have a fairly substantial collection of Marxist books at Solidarity House that friends and comrades can borrow.

MISSION STATEMENT: The Northwoods Socialist Collective is a group of working class activists based in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.  We believe everyone should have a say in the matters that affect their lives.  That is why we are socialists.  We advocate for a socialism that is revolutionary, internationalist and feminist, as well as being anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-imperialist, environmentally sustainable and fully committed to LGBTQAI+ liberation.  We invite you to join us in the struggle to make our communities and world a better place!
