The
possible strike at UMD, and the rest of the U of M system, is on hold
until the workers vote on a "last, best and final offer" from the
administration. The negotiating
committee of Teamsters Local 320 is recommending a "no" vote on the
offer, but the workers will get to vote in the coming days. We'll keep
you posted. In the meantime, we recommend following Local 320's
facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/teamsters.local.320
Here is a statement that was issued by the union:
After 40 hours of state mandated mediation, UMN provided Teamsters Local 320 with their Last, Best and Final Offer at 1:00 AM on Tuesday morning. Your negotiating committee held firm throughout the process, trying to find common ground and a contract that you deserve. Regardless of our movement, it wasn’t until the last hours that the university made any substantive changes in their proposal. While your negotiating committee was able to address many of your priorities, over all the final offer falls short of our goals.
Due to this being a Final Offer, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Constitution requires the Local Union to conduct a secret ballot vote. This vote will be conducted in-person at the larger campuses and through the mail for smaller locations. More information will be published soon regarding voting times and locations.
To be clear, this Final Offer does not meet the negotiation committee’s standards. The negotiating committee has voted unanimously to recommend a ‘No’ vote on this Last, Best and Final Offer.
