MNA Announces Strike at Essentia and Aspirus

The Minnesota Nurses Association  filed a 10 day notice this past Friday that nurses represented by the union will be going out on strike against Essentia Health Aspirus/St. Luke's starting on July 8 at 7am. This is an Unfair Labor Practices strike that comes in the context of a contract fight in which both employers are refusing to agree to safe staffing levels and fair compensation.

On Monday, MNA filed an additional 10 day strike notice on behalf of the Advance Practice Providers (Physician Assistants and Certified Nurses Practitioners) that they represent at Essentia that they will also be going out on strike on July 10.

And in a gesture of solidarity, United Steelworkers Local 9460 filed a 10 day notice on Monday that they will be holding informational pickets at Essentia in support of the MNA.  Local 9460 represents about 1,800 support staff, technical workers and clinical staff at Essentia Health main campus.

The MNA strike will cover the main campus of Essentia Health in Duluth, along with the Superior Hospital and Solvay House, and it will also cover the Aspirus/St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.  The strike will be an open ended one, and picketing will start on each day at 7am.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.  Lets all stand in solidarity with the hard working health care workers of the Twin Ports!
