May 15 is Nakba Day - which commemorates the 1948 ethnic cleansing of over a million Palestinians from what is now Israel. Activists in Duluth marked the day by gathering outside of the Depot, where the Chamber of Commerce was holding a gathering. The protest called for an end to the carnage in Gaza, and for companies to divest from Israel.
The event was organized by Anti-Imperialist Action, and endorsed by the Northwoods Socialist Collective, DSA, Grandmothers for Peace, Communities United Against Police Brutality and Twin Ports Against Weapons Trade.
The poetry verses featured in the photos of the event are excerpts from a piece called "Breathing". It is written by Basman Aldirawi, a poet in Gaza.
We also want to make our readers aware that there will be a Palestine teach-in on May 31. The event is titled "Resisting Genocide and Zionism". It will run from 9:30am to 2pm and will take place at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Duluth. It is being organized by the Palestine Solidarity Working Group.
