Twin Ports Rallies in Support of Postal Workers

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the National Association of Letter Carriers' rallies to save the USPS on Sunday, March 24! There was rally in Duluth, as well as one in Superior. The Duluth protest was organized by NAlC Branch 114, and the Superior one was organized by NALC Branch 337. Several dozen attended each event. It was a cold and wet day, but that didn't stop this powerful display of working class solidarity!

The protests were called by the union to protest the ongoing cuts to the U.S. Postal Service, as well as the looming threat of privatization.  For many years Congress has been intentionally sabotaging the postal service through onerous regulations and limiting of what sites can do mail sorting.  Given the massive donation that private delivery companies have been showing politicians, the fear is that they are trying to artificially create a crisis to justify dismantling the U.S.P.S. and turning out its services over to for profit businesses.

POLITICAL EDUCATION: We feel that a crucial part of building a socialist movement is political education.  We encourage our members to study Marxist theory, and to apply it to understand how the world works and what can be done to change it.  We put on monthly Socialism and...

Calling Out Transphobia in Our Community

Over the weekend, one of the owners of At Sara's Table / Chester Creek Cafe, Barbara Neubert, shared a transphobic meme and at least one other meme in support of JK Rowling on her personal Facebook page. This might sound like an issue of free speech, but it's not, it's hate speech. Its purpose is to dehumanize us. That it was platformed by a respected elder in the local progressive and LGBTQ communities is even more concerning. Many politicians who have pushed for draconian transphobic laws have used JK Rowling's own tweets as a justification to punish us, and keep us closeted. It also came to light that her wife and co-owner, Carla Blumberg, told a non-binary employee that they ought to dress more feminine because "I get that your generation believes that sexual manipulation is utterly evil, but, nevertheless, it works." Then in a later "clarification" misgendered them, and said they "dressed like someone in the Seattle grunge scene while (...
