We expect the police to return, either this evening or tomorrow morning. Please come and stand in solidarity with our unhoused neighbors if you can. If you can stop by any time today it would be appreciated. Firewood, food and water is also always appreciated. The folks holding things down are especially asking though that folks try to come to the encampment tonight at 6pm and tomorrow morning at 7am.
Perhaps the authorities expected the unhoused folks at the camp would just magically be gone today, since they police didn’t seem to have any kind of plan for what to do when they arrived and found the camp still very much there, with tents full of sleeping people. We fear though that when they come back they very much will have a plan and will try to enforce the city’s order for the camp to be shut down. Shutting down the encampment will only accomplish one thing - allow business owners, politicians and middle class folks to go back to not having to see the reality of our housing crisis. Shame on the powers that be of Duluth! Solidarity with those who are resisting their callous course of action! We need real resources and real solutions to our housing crisis, and they are needed TODAY!
