Community Activist Kym Young Needs Our Solidarity

Below is a statement issued by Kym Young and family:

Some of you have been aware that my health is declining due to very aggressive crohns. I’ve been battling with severe health issues related to and directly affected by crohns, some of which have been extremely life threatening. My family and I have been battling this disease for 12+ years now and many of my organs and outer body have been affected from loss of some eyesight, hair loss and skin degradation to severe surgical procedures.

At this time my teeth are beginning to crack and break off due to Calvin’s vitamin D deficiency and that’s the read I’ve decided to seek some financial help to cover some dental problems. One of my teeth broke off today but a good majority of it remains in my gums. There are jagged edges and part of those are it’s under my gums and could pose a threat to me if it becomes infected or develops an abscess. Im currently healing from an abdominal cavity abscess that ruptured a few weeks ago and required some hospitalization and time in Solvay hospice house.

it’s extremely difficult to find a dentist much less an orthodontist in our area that accepts Medicare or state funded insurance although dental care is an overall part of body health and wellness.

must get this fixed as soon as possible because of the risks involved to myself and the peace of mind of my family. Each day I awake is a blessing from the Creator and I cherish all the moments I am gifted at this time.

Health care costs are continually increasing and health care options are not always available, affordable or accessible to many in our communities nationwide. And it’s very hard to reach out and ask for help in the best of times. When you are not able to meet those needs in the worst of times it’s not just hard to ask, it becomes difficult and near impossible to put yourself out there at such a vulnerable moment.

It’s difficult right now. But I am putting myself out there and asking for help. My prognosis is terminal but my mindset is still on fight to survive. Each moment of life is so much more important at a time like this because we don’t want our loved ones to see us suffering and in pain. I don’t want to be in pain but it’s worth it for each new day that I get to say I love you to my family friends and my community.

So i am reaching out. I need help with dental care. I’m doing everything humanly possible to be here and enjoy this life I am gifted. I would very much appreciate it if you could share, donate even a word of encouragement is good medicine.

Thank you.

A Little Bit About Us . . .

MISSION STATEMENT: The Northwoods Socialist Collective is a group of working class activists based in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.  We believe everyone should have a say in the matters that affect their lives.  That is why we are socialists.  We advocate for a socialism that is revolutionary, internationalist and feminist, as well as being anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-imperialist, environmentally sustainable and fully committed to LGBTQAI+ liberation.  We invite you to join us in the struggle to make our communities and world a better place! Below is an attempt to list the things that we do, and the framework that we have for achieving the goals listed is our Mission Statement. POLITICAL EDUCATION: We feel that a crucial part of building a socialist movement is political education.  We encourage our members to study Marxist theory, and to apply it to understand how the world works and what can be done to change it.  We put on monthly Socialism and...

Getting Involved

Karl Marx powerfully that "philosophers have sought to interpret the world, the point, however, is to change it."  Towards that end here is a list of ways that we encourage folks who are looking to make their community and world a better place to plug into: CALENDAR: The Northwoods Socialist Collective publishes a weekly calendar of activist events going on throughout northern MN and WI.  It's a great way to stay in the loop!  To sign up to get it by email fill out this form .  You can also find the calendar posted on our website , facebook page , twitter and instagram page .  We publish it every Tuesday.  The local DSA chapter also puts out a weekly calendar, as does Claire B , both of which we also recommend.
