Duluth City Council Fails to Pass Ceasefire Resolution

A heart felt thank you to everyone who turned out in solidarity with Gaza last night! Despite the blizzard and even the buses not running, so many folks turned out to the City Council meeting that the Council Chambers couldn't fit everyone, and dozens had to sit or stand in the hallway and lobby. The Council meeting started at 7pm, but so many people spoke in favor of the ceasefire resolution that the Council vote didn't happen until about 10:30pm.

Despite the impressive turnout and the powerful speeches by dozens of Duluthians, the resolution was defeated by a vote of 5 to 4. Councilors Awal, Mayou, Durrwacher and Randorf voted in favor, with Kennedy, Forsman, Nephew, Swenson and Tomanek voting against. Despite this outcome, we salute the amazing organizing and activism that went into this. Stay tuned for announcement about next steps. Our movement, and the struggle, continues comrades!
