United Steelworkers Local 9460 held a rally for St. Luke's tech workers on Tuesday. The over-burdened workers there are locked in tough contract negotiations over wages, call pay and staffing levels. Well over a hundred people turned out throughout the day for the 10 hour rally on the corner of London Road and Superior Street. In addition to workers from St. Luke's Hospital, they were joined by tech workers from Essentia, miners from the Iron Range, teachers, public workers, paper mill workers, elected officials, community activists and many others. And the support from passing motorists and pedestrians throughout the day was overwhelming!
The St. Luke's Negotiating Committee met with St. Luke's the following day, and was able to get the company to agree to a tentative one year agreement. It pays to stand up and fight!
